ANSTO

Microsoft 365 and Power Platform at ANSTO.

I owned the Microsoft 365 and Power Platform estate as Team Leader and Product Owner.

Tools and tech

  • Microsoft 365
  • Power Platform
  • Dataverse
  • Power Automate
  • M365 Copilot

The problem

ANSTO, a federal science agency, needed its Microsoft 365 and Power Platform estate run to federal security requirements. It also needed a governed way to build, support and adopt solutions across the organisation. Legacy silos sat in the way of executive data.

My role

As Team Leader and Product Owner, I owned the Microsoft 365 and Power Platform estate end to end. I led the team and worked with stakeholders across the business.

What I built

  • I built the Power Platform centre of excellence from the ground up and improved adoption of the intranet, under ISM and IRAP controls.
  • I set up Power Platform environments and data loss prevention policies to match the agency's security requirements.
  • I replaced legacy silos with Dataverse and Power Automate solutions. Those solutions surfaced real-time executive data. I worked with the analytics lead.
  • I created reusable patterns, playbooks and sessions, so teams could build and support solutions within the governance framework.
  • I took part in the whole-of-government M365 Copilot trial.

How it worked

Governance sat in the environments and the data loss prevention policies first. Delivery then used those patterns, so new work stayed inside the same controls.

Playbooks and sessions were how the capability was meant to survive after I left.

Outcomes

A governed Microsoft 365 and Power Platform estate, run under ISM and IRAP controls.

A centre of excellence that I built from the ground up.

Improved adoption of the intranet.
